The
Asian Pacific American Program seeks to integrate Asian Pacific
American contributions to U.S. history, culture, art, and society
through Smithsonian collections, research, exhibitions, and
programs.
Major Areas
§ Collections: establish priorities for developing APA
holdings at the Smithsonian and educate APA communities of the importance of collecting and preserving artifacts
§ Research: collaborate with Smithsonian museums, universities, and scholars to leverage resources devoted to APA research
including hosting resident scholars and providing internships
§ Exhibitions: create and upgrade exhibitions at the Smithsonian
as well as host traveling exhibitions that include APA contributions and perspectives
§ Education: increase the number of public programming
events to link APA perspectives to a wider audience and provide educational outreach in print and electronic venues
§ National Outreach: create a network of museums and collaborations
with communities and individuals promoting APA heritage
